This Tuesday January 28th, Glass for Europe had the pleasure of visiting SOLTECH NV’s facilities accompanied by French Member of the European Parliament, Marina Mesure.

Ms Mesure sits in the Industry & Energy committee of the European Parliament and during the last term worked on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

SOLTECH is a pioneer in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), which transform static facades into energy-producing sources. It is proof of Europe’s capacity for innovation and technological leadership in the solar industry.

It was therefore a fruitful opportunity to discuss the critical challenges facing Europe’s solar glass and photovoltaic industry. Discussions ranged from the pressures of unfair competition, the need to bridge the competitiveness gap, and the priority of boosting demand for innovative BIPV solutions, leveraging the potential of European companies. This high-tech BIPV production strengthens the entire value chain, from advanced machinery to flat glass manufacturers, showcasing the excellence of EU-based industries and their contributions toward achieving our European climate goals.

The secondary legislation of the Net-Zero Industry Act must recognise that building-integrated photovoltaics is an asset for building decarbonisation and solar technologies. BIPV must be recognised as a main and primary components of solar technologies. Glass for Europe will contribute to the opened public consultation (until 20 February) in this sense.
